Angela Solis is a violin and viola teacher with more than 12 years of experience. She started her music studies in Spain where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music in 2004. During this time, her performance and teaching experiences were forged between the classical, contemporary and regional styles. Her experience in performance includes playing in several orchestras, ensembles, recording studios and as the lead singer and founder of the band “Costellas”.

Angela’s teaching experience was broadened after becoming a Suzuki teacher and attending method workshops in Spain. One of her greatest professional achievements was to obtain the viola teacher position in the state music system in Spain in 2008.

Misha was born in the former U.S.S.R. republic of Uzbekistan and raised in San Francisco. He holds a degree in Classical Cello Performance from UCLA.  During his time in Los Angeles, Misha taught cello at two inner city schools, where he gained a passion for music education.  In 2009, he joined the world music group Rupa and the April Fishes, which has taken him on tour to 25 countries in the past four years. They have performed on international festival stages and released a new album, Build, in 2012. He is also a member of the groups Blind Willies, StringQuake, and The Congress, with whom he has recorded four albums.  Misha teaches private students as well. His patience and dedication have overcome the challenges of teaching classes of rambunctious young cellists.

HALEY MAY - VIOLIN

Our assistant teacher grew up in South Central Los Angeles, and spent over 10 years participating in Harmony Project there, typically attending 4 days per week after school. She is the first in her family to go to a University, and is now a sophomore at SF State majoring in business. Harmony Project gave Haley focus, purpose, and exposure to culture in the wider world beyond her neighborhood. She is a wonderful role model for our students!

Sung choi - CELLO

Sung Choi began his cello studies in South Korea. He enjoys mentoring young students, fondly remembering his mentors and their impact on him during his formative years. His past and current musical mentors include Jean-Michel Fonteneau, Robert Howard, Yoshikazu Nagai and many more. He has participated in master classes led by the Tokyo String Quartet, Guarneri Quartet, and Orion String Quartet.

When not teaching, Sung enjoys playing a wide range of chamber and orchestral music. Since 2017, he has been the principal cellist and a mentor of Cambrian Symphony in San Jose. He’s excited to be a part of the Harmony Project!
